Postpartum has become a synonym for depression.

That has only become true in the modern world that has very little tolerance for the unseen underworld journeys, as well as so little social support to hold the transition.

When a baby is born, a mother is also born.  She is something altogether new.

A new mother needs everything a new baby needs. Swaddling, constant food source, warmth, and sleep.
We tend to think of childbirth itself as the rite of passage, but matrescence is something much vaster than what happens in the birth portal.

When we tend to the rites of passage, we will see that the postpartum time can come to represent something nourishing and reparative, rather than a dreaded time to just bear.
